Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 100%) Institute for Ophthalmic Research, Data Science for Vision Research

Application deadline : 15.12.2021

The "Data Science for Vision Research" group at the Institute for Ophthalmic Research at the University of Tübingen (https:// www. berenslab.org), is offering a position for a

Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 100%)

in scRNA-seq data science within the framework of the Tübingen AI Center for initially two years to start as soon as possible. In the envisioned project, the postdoctoral researcher will work on new frameworks to model and distinguish discrete vs. continuous cell variability using multimodal data in neuroscience.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person with a PhD in bioinformatics, computational neuroscience, machine learning, or related fields with a strong interest in developing statistical and machine learning approaches for analyzing and modeling single-cell transcriptomic data. The ideal candidate will have a strong mathematical background, Python experience, and be familiar with scRNA-seq data, but we are happy to consider applications from people with no prior experience in this field.

The position will be in Dmitry Kobak's team focusing on unsupervised learning for single-cell transcriptomic data. This includes research on dimensionality reduction, low-dimensional embeddings, clustering frameworks, latent variable models, self-supervised deep learning, etc., applied to scRNA-seq in order to understand biological cell-to-cell variability. Tübingen is a very exciting place to do machine learning research, with an internationally recognized environment including the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, the Cluster of Excellence "Machine Learning - New Perspectives for Science", the Tübingen AI Center and the Cyber Valley.

Members of underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply – currently, we are a diverse team from eight different countries with a balanced gender ratio, and we are excited to receive your application! The employment will be carried out by the central administration of the University of Tübingen. The University seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore urges qualified women to apply. Disabled persons will be preferred in case of equal qualification.

Applications should include a CV and a motivation letter. Let us know why you are excited about your previous research and how you would want to work with us. Please send your application materials as a single PDF to dmitry.kobakspam prevention@uni-tuebingen.de. The application deadline is December 15.
