Postdoctoral Researcher in Sanskrit Literary and Cultural History Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Oxford Grade 7: £32,817 - £40,322 per annum

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, Prof. Christopher Minkowski, the post holder is a member of a research group with responsibility for carrying out research and producing publications for a Leverhulme Trust-funded project on ‘The Mahabharata's supporting texts in literary and cultural history.' The post holder provides guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants and DPhil students .

The Researcher will m anage their own academic research and administrative activities, using appropriate research methodologies and materials. They will produce a monograph on the use of commentaries on the Mahabharata and Ramayana by religious communities in late medieval and early modern India, and collaborate in the preparation of related research publications. This will involve travel to sites, including India, to collect copies of manuscripts. As well as presenting papers at conferences internationally, the Researcher will act as a source of information and advice to other members of the research group, and contribute ideas for new research projects.

You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with relevant experience and sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within the established research project. Demonstrating the ability to manage your own academic research and associated activities, and with previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations, you will be able to show a record of research in the subject of the proposed monograph. You will be able to contribute ideas for new research projects and research income generation, and possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings. Ideally you will have independently managing a discrete area of a research project, and actively collaborated in the development of research articles for publication.

This position is based in central Oxford. This is a full-time, fixed-term position between 1 October 2021 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and 30 September 2024.
