Postdoctoral Researcher in Mucosal Immunology
The Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford OX3 7FY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Powrie Lab at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford. The successful applicant will use their expertise in immunology and/ or vaccinology to work on a project led by CHAIN Biotech, a microbiome therapeutics company specialising in synthetic biologic approaches to oral vaccine design and delivery. The project is led by Dr Kelsey Jones.
Utilising CHAIN's Clostridium -Assisted Drug Delivery Platform, the overall aim is to develop novel oral vaccine candidates against pathogens of clinical importance to child health in low- and middle-income countries. The post- holder will optimise methods to measure oral vaccine efficacy in in vivo models, including a model of weanling undernutrition, to refine such models, and undertake detailed assessment of the immunogenicity of leading candidates.
You will hold, or be near to completing, a PhD degree (or equivalent) in mucosal immunology, vaccinology, or a related subject. You will have experience of working with adaptive immune cell populations and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in intestinal immunology to work on the project. An excellent communicator, you will be able to communicate results clearly and logically and you will have the capacity to deliver high-quality research outputs.
We would also welcome applications from less experienced candidates at an earlier stage in their scientific career, to whom a lower grade offer may be made at grade 6 (£29,614 - £35,326 p.a.) with a commensurate reduction in responsibilities, and amendment in job title to Research Assistant in Mucosal Immunology.
This is a fixed term post for 18 months. The closing date for applications is midday on Thursday 11 August. As part of your application, you will be required to upload a supporting statement explaining how you meet each of the selection criteria.
