  • COMPETITION OPENING DATE 25 November, 2022

The aim of this project is to propose and theoretically investigate new systems, new ways of producing, controlling, and manipulating, and new applications of ultracold polyatomic molecules ranging from controlled chemical reactions to precision measurements. Thus we will extend the range of systems and quantum phenomena ready at hand to be produced and employed in the experiment.

The candidate is expected to know theoretical methods of ab initio electronic structure calculations and/or nuclear dynamics for small molecules and/or related topics in ultracold quantum many-body physics. We also expect motivation and independence in solving scientific problems.

In the project the candidate will use and develop methods of electronic structure and/or quantum scattering theory to investigate properties of novel ultracold quantum molecular systems or other related topics in ultracold quantum many-body physics, important for ongoing and future experimental works.

The planned employment will be realized within the project „Ultracold polyatomic molecules for controlled chemistry and precision physics“ financed by the European Research Council within the Starting program grant of Prof. Michał Tomza. The planned employment period is for the first position up to 36 months and for the second position until the end of the project or up to 60 months, depending on what will be first.

The candidates have to conform to the conditions stated in art. 113 of Higher Education Law dated 20.07.2018. (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland 2022, item 574)

    Benefits

The work will be carried out at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw under the supervision of dr Michał Tomza. The planned employment period is for the first position up to 36 months and for the second position until the end of the project or up to 60 months, depending on what will be first.

    Eligibility criteria
  • PhD degree in physics or related field.
  • Interest in the subject, motivation to scientific work.
  • Knowledge of quantum mechanics including electronic structure and scattering theory as well as experience in programming.
  • Selection process

The candidate should provide all documents to e-mail michal.tomza@fuw.edu.pl in form of PDF files (with e-mail title: „Postdoc ERC):

  • Application for the position. The file should contain a scanned signature.

  • CV,
  • List of publications with a candidate‘s achievement indicated as the most important,
  • List of at least 2 professors or senior faculty members familiar with the candidate's achievements who may be asked for reference letters,
  • Copy of other relevant documents confirming candidate‘s qualifications.
  • The entire procedure will be concluded before 15.01.2023. The candidate might be asked for an interview with the commission appointed by the Dean of the Faculty.

This announcement is the first step in the procedure of employing an academic teacher and its positive result will be a base for consecutive steps.
