Postdoctoral Researcher - Flash Radiation

Old Road Campus Research Building, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7DQ

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Physics and Biology of FLASH Radiation Research Group led by Dr Kristoffer Petersson. This Research Group will focus on the novel radiotherapy technique that is showing great potential in improving cancer treatment and aims to identify the biological mechanisms behind the highly beneficial FLASH effect, and find the optimal way of implementing the technique in clinical practice.

You will be responsible for carrying out research on the key biological mechanisms behind FLASH radiation. This will involve the adaptation of existing techniques for measuring DNA damage and investigating DNA damage response, development of new scientific techniques and the writing of experimental protocols. You will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data and will contribute ideas for new research projects related to FLASH Radiation response and cancer.

You will also manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.

This role is offered on a full time basis and is fixed term for 18 months in the first instance.

About you

You will have (or be near to completion) a relevant PhD (e.g. in radiation biology, radiation physics, radiochemistry, molecular biology, biology or similar) and have the ability to manage your own academic research and associated activities. Previous experience of contributing to publications and presentations are essential. Previous experience of working with FLASH radiation would be advantageous as would previous experience of in vivo research.

Application process

If you would like to discuss this role please contact Dr Kristoffer Petersson on
