Genetics, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7BN
We are seeking to appoint two Postdoctoral Research Scientists in HIV-host
Interactions to join the Division of Structural Biology at the Nuffield
Department of Medicine.
You will be responsible for managing your own academic research and
administrative activities. This involves both design and action of strategies
in molecular biology, protein expression and purification, structural studies
using cryoEM and other appropriate methods. The project requires close
management, the co-ordination of different strands within the programme and
the meeting of deadlines. You will be responsible for acting as a source of
information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols
and experimental techniques. You will use specialist scientific equipment in a
laboratory environment and provide training to others in its use, as required.
You will carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner
organisations and research groups, and you will act in a co-supervisory role
towards graduate students associated with the research programme.
It is essential that you are educated to a PhD/DPhil (or close to
completion) in structural and functional studies of proteins and protein
complexes, together with research experience in structural biology, including
production and purification of proteins using mammalian and/or E. coli
expression systems, and biochemical and biophysical characterization of
protein complexes. It is essential that you research experience in cryoEM SPA
and/or in cryoET and subtomogram averaging, both experimental and
computational; and a good working knowledge of viruses and retrovirus
infection. You will be able to manage the day-to-day running of a research
project including assisting the work of junior researchers; and have good
written and verbal communication skills.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required
to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.
