This new full time post is available from 16 January 2023 on a fixed term basis until 11 July 2024 (possibility of extension, subject to approval)

Summary of the role

The Centre for Smart Grid wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the investigation of operating performance and optimisation of existing and new Quadrature Boosters (QB) in the UK power network. This National Grid funded post is available from 16 January 2023 to 11 July 2024 (possibility of extension, subject to approval). The project aims to develop new QB control strategies to manage future network constraints and allow effective power flow control.

The successful applicant will develop a coordinated control strategy of multiple QBs to maximise their usage in GB's network, and will investigate the optimisation of sizing and location of power flow devices in the network.

About you

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in Electrical Engineering and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to have good knowledge in power system and electrical engineering, and to use power system simulation software, e.g., DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
