Job description

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences – Biosciences

This full-time position is available from 3 October 2022 on a fixed term basis until 31 December 2024 in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.

The post

We are looking for a talented and self-motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow in microbiology and recombinant protein biochemistry to complement existing expertise in synthetic biology and further our understanding of recombinant protein expression in non-conventional microbes for industrial biocatalysis.

The successful candidate will integrate a multi-disciplinary team in the Exeter Microbial Biofuels Group to develop and validate new routes for “fourth generation” biofuels by synthetic biology, focussing primarily on the expression and biochemistry of recombinant proteins in atypical microbial hosts.

About you

The postholder will be expected to develop research objectives and lead projects and proposals within the framework of the project, make presentations to industrial partners and at academic conferences, and contribute to the process of securing research funds, thereby enabling them to develop a promising research career.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a recognised specialist in recombinant protein biochemistry and possess the ability and desire to lead research and generate high-quality academic publications. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.

Opportunities for further professional development may be considered as part of Exeter University's professional development programme. In addition to technical and academic experience, the ideal candidate will possess excellent organisational and communication skills and a collaborative and inquisitive personality.
