Position Title Postdoctoral Research Fellow

School Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Department/Area The Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (Harvard Chan C-CHANGE) Position Description

The Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (Harvard Chan C-CHANGE) invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to begin immediately on its Transportation, Equity, Climate and Health (TRECH) program.

The project: Transportation, Equity, Climate, and Health ( TRECH):

Modernizing transportation systems in the U.S. offers important opportunities to slow climate change, improve human health, and alleviate inequities. Through our Transportation, Equity, Climate, and Health (TRECH) Project, we are analyzing how different policies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions could improve people's lives.

We are looking for a Research Fellow to join our TRECH team to evaluate the health, equity, and environmental justice effects of different policy options for transportation policies in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and use this information to inform climate policymaking.

The TRECH Project analyzes how infrastructure investments and transportation policies can influence health through better air quality and increases in physical activity. The project is multi-faceted and includes regional health and equity assessment of different policy options, focused case studies in New York City and Boston, work with environmental justice groups, and assessment of emissions from charging electric vehicles (EVs).

Responsibilities include:

● Working on a multi-university collaborative team

● Health impact analysis using a novel framework, using output from the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model

● Producing outreach materials, including maps, fact sheets, and presentations ● Contributing to a number of scientific manuscripts

● Communication and outreach to stakeholder groups including environmental justice groups, NGOs, and policymakers

The Team:

We are a multi-university collaboration with teams at Harvard Chan C-CHANGE, Columbia University, Boston University, and the University of North Carolina, composed of risk and exposure assessment experts, epidemiologists, atmospheric scientists, and communications experts, and all levels from doctoral student to professor. We all share an interest in ensuring that climate policies are developed that are also health, equity, and environmental justice forward.

The Center:

Harvard Chan C-CHANGE performs research on the health impacts of the energy industry and climate policy, and translates the innovative research from faculty and students across the Harvard Chan School into actions that improve public health today and create a more just, sustainable and healthy future for all. Led by Dr. Aaron Bernstein, Harvard Chan C-CHANGE equips changemakers with the evidence and tools they need to act now to protect our health.
