The School of Mathematics and Physics
The School of Mathematics and Physics is internationally recognised for its
teaching and research excellence. Many staff members in the school have won
university and national awards for their teaching innovation and excellence.

The School of Mathematics and Physics has a total of 110 full-time academic
staff members, and 21 professional staff who provide professional, technical
and administrative support. The School teaches a comprehensive undergraduate
program in science, mathematics, statistics, and physics, as well as
performing service teaching for students of engineering and the life sciences.
There is also an extensive postgraduate research program, which currently has
more than 100 Research Higher Degree students enrolled.
About This Opportunity
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow will focus their efforts on developing their
expertise and emerging research profile in their discipline. At this level it
is expected that the incumbent will contribute to service and engagement roles
As a research focused Level A, the incumbent will be supported and guided by
more senior academic research staff with the expectation of an increasing
degree of autonomy over time.
As a research focused Level B the incumbent will have an established record of
independent research, and of service and engagement activities.
The successful applicant will be a member of the UQ node of the ARC Centre of
Excellence in Future-Low Energy Electronics Technologies (FLEET,
www. fleet.org.au). FLEET addresses a grand challenge: reducing the energy
used in information and communication technology (ICT), which already
accounts for about 8% of global electricity consumption and is doubling every
decade. The UQ node investigates the fundamental properties of nonequlibrium
superfluids with a goal of utilising this knowledge in dissipationless

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one
of Australia's most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from
Brisbane's city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with
outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a

Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have a PhD (or be in the final process of
obtaining a PhD) or equivalent in theoretical quantum physics, condensed
matter physics, or a related area. You will have demonstrated a proficient
knowledge and capacity for research in theoretical quantum physics, with the
potential to publish scholarly papers on the topics of nonequilibrium
superfluids and quantum gases. In addition, you will also have the ability to
work both independently and collaboratively as well as contribute to the
supervision of research students at a postgraduate level.
As a Level B applicant, you will have attained national recognition for
research, with an established a record of publication in high-quality outlets,
and a record of applying for external research funding. You will also have
demonstrated contribution to the effective supervision of postgraduate

What We Can Offer
This is a full-time fixed term position (up to 2 years) at Academic Research
Level A or B.
For Level A: The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $70,449
- $94,637, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range
$82,753 - $110,726.
For Level B: The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $99,542
- $118,206 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range
$116,465 - $138,301.
