Macquarie University

Australia

October 16, 2022

Description

PRIMARY DETAIL

We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral research fellow to work with us on projects investigating the neural basis of attention, focusing specifically on sustained attention under monitoring conditions.

THE ROLE

  • Salary: From $97,620 - 104,622 per annum (Level A, step 6 for PhD qualification), pro-rata for part time, plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Appointment type: Full-time or part-time, 2-year fixed term position
  • Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)
  • About the Role

We have been awarded an Australian Research Council Discovery Project grant which combines rigorous experimental design with innovative analysis methods to explore both the neural basis of attention and the potential for multivariate pattern analysis (‘decoding') methods to be used for neural feedback to enhance attentional performance. We use Magnetoencephalography (MEG), Electroencephalography (EEG) and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) combined with behavioural tasks.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the context of a research team spanning three countries: Macquarie University (Australia; Anina Rich), Cambridge University (UK; Alex Woolgar) and the University of Utah (USA; David Strayer). With international collaboration and mentoring, scope to contribute to all aspects of the research, opportunities for student supervision (PhD and Masters) and outreach activities, this position is an excellent career development opportunity for an outstanding early career researcher.

We are open to considering part-time or job-share arrangements, and have a strong track record of successful mentoring of early career researchers.

    About You

You will have, or be close to obtaining a PhD Cognitive Science, Cognitive Neuroscience, or a related field. You may have already conducted research in neuroimaging/neurophysiological measures (fMRI, MEG &/or EEG) and have a passion for the neural basis of attention and cognitive control. Your skillset includes competence in programming (for example, in Matlab or similar) that will set you up for conducting multivariate analyses of neural data. We can't wait to meet you!

    About Us
