Postdoctoral Research Associate

Department of Experimental Psychology, Tinsley Building, Mansfield Road

We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to join the laboratories of Professors Steve Kennerley and Matthew Rushworth. The laboratories investigate the neural mechanisms of reward-guided learning, planning and decision making.

The post is full time, fixed term for 36 months and is available from 1st January 2024.

The post-holder will carry out research related to the laboratories' interests and collaborate with other researchers in collecting and analysing electrophysiology, fMRI and behavioural data from non-human primates (NHPs) using a range of techniques including electrophysiological recording, fMRI, TUS, and behavioural testing. Experience in the use of these techniques is essential. The applicant is expected to obtain and hold a valid Home Office licence for working with NHPs.

The main duties of the role include leading research investigations using electrophysiological, neuroimaging and neuro-stimulation methods in NHPs in decision neuroscience, analysing complex behavioural and neuronal data, and generating original ideas. The post-holder will also help develop new research methodologies, particularly in wireless electrophysiological techniques and/or high-density neuronal recording approaches. They will be expected to coordinate research activities across multiple research laboratories within our funded collaboration. You will also contribute to scientific reports and journal articles and the presentation of data/papers at conferences. The post- holder will have a well-established research profile and conducts their own research with independence, and will be expected to provide day-to-day supervision for research assistants and post-graduate researchers.

You will hold a PhD/DPhil level degree in physiology/neuroscience/psychology- related subject with experience in cognitive neuroscience research, and considerable experience in single neuron electrophysiology methods. With the ability to manage own research and administrative activities, you will be independent, self-motivated, and able to work collaboratively in a team.

The closing date for applications is midday on 8th December 2023 and it is expected that interviews will be held during 15-20 December 2023.
