The Department currently consists of 33 faculty, who advise and train many graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other research staff in (1) the neurobiology of aging, neurodegenerative diseases, traumatic brain injury, and stroke; (2) diseases of the eye; and (3) drug discovery, drug development, and behavioral pharmacology. P&N is also the home of the National Institutes of Health T32 program “ Training In the Neurobiology of Aging and Alzheimer's Disease ” (T32 AG020494). P&N also maintains cutting-edge facilities for mass spectrometry, advanced confocal microscopy, high-throughput electrophysiology, and in vivo preclinical neurocognitive psychomotor and sensorineural testing.

Position Overview

The postdoctoral fellow will work on Dr. Clark's funded NEI/NIH R01 grant entitled “Glucocorticoids, ocular hypertension, and glaucoma” which recently started its 2nd year of this 5-year funded grant. The postdoc will conduct research using in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models of glucocorticoid-induced ocular hypertension.

Minimum Qualifications

Appropriate doctoral degree. If the degree had not been conferred at the time applicant applied for a postdoc position, a letter needs to be attached from the school's official Graduate Office and/or Registrar's Office certifying that all requirements for the degree have been met and stating the degree conferral date.

    Job Duties

    o

    The new postdoctoral fellow will spend approximately 90% of his/her effort on laboratory research to support the funded NEI/NIH R01 grant entitled “Glucocorticoids, ocular hypertension, and glaucoma”. This will include using in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models of glucocorticoid-induced ocular hypertension. The postdoc will use molecular, genetic, and cell biology tools to identify pathogenic pathways and to identify pathogenic genes responsible for this clinically important side effect of glucocorticoid therapy.

    The remaining 10% of the postdoc's time will be spent keeping up with research literature, preparing manuscripts for publication, and preparing grant proposals for independent funding (i.e. postdoctoral fellowships).
