Postdoctoral Research Associate Position

80 - 100 %

This post-doctoral position is affiliated with both Prof. Quednow's Experimental and Clinical Pharmacopsychology and Prof. Shanahan's Experimental and Clinical Pharmacopsychology and Research/Risk and Resilience.

The position is embedded in the project “Cognitive Sequelea of Adolescent Recreational Substance Use,” funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (80-100% position). This project leverages 9 waves of data (from ages 7 to 24 years) from the prospective-longitudinal “Zurich Project on the Social Development from Childhood to Adulthood (z-proso)” to test cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between self-reported and objectively quantified substance use in hair and cognition at age 24. Furthermore, cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of real-life functioning and cognition at age 24 will be investigated. Sex differences will also be tested.

Your responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will primarily be responsible for conducting data analyses and writing scientific papers. They will work closely with the investigative team and will have the opportunity to take the lead on publications. They will also supervise a PhD student as well as a few masters and bachelors theses, primarily in Psychology. Review of applications will begin immediately until position is filled; the start date of the position is as soon as possible. Working languages are English and German. The initial contract will be for 1 year, renewable 2 years, maximum 3 years.

Your profile

Candidates must have a Doctoral degree / Ph.D. in psychology, sociology, epidemiology, or a closely related field when starting the position. The ideal candidate has:

  • strong quantitative skills, including experience with longitudinal data analysis (e.g., multilevel and/or structural equation modeling), and substantive interests in substance use and cognition from a developmental perspective.
  • worked with statistical packages that handle missing and multilevel data (e.g., R, Mplus), and has excellent skills in interpreting, visualizing, and communicating results from longitudinal analyses.
  • experience using propensity score modeling techniques that are suitable for causal analysis of observational studies or is interested in learning these types of analyses.
  • The successful candidate should have excellent teamwork skills and be interested in collaborating with other people & disciplines. Energy, focus, and critical thinking are assets.
