Job description

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

This new three year full-time post is available immediately on a fixed term basis.

Please note that as of 1st September 2022 our colleges and schools will be moving into a new structure which will consist of the following three Faculties – Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, (to include the Medical School), Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy, and Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

Summary of the role

The post

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Professor Jo Bowtell, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The post is available immediately for a period of 3 years, and will involve managing and conducting nutrition and/or exercise intervention studies with human participants, measuring physiological and metabolic responses, biochemical analysis of blood, and human tissue samples and/or cell lines, and mentoring PhD students. We invite PhD-qualified candidates with human physiology, nutrition or biochemistry experience and/or cell culture, as well as excellent communication and organisational skills to apply. Experience of methods such as RT-PCR, Western blots, proteomics, metabolomics, and cell culture, and/or a willingness to learn biopsy techniques would be particularly welcome.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will have experience of managing research projects involving nutrition and/or exercise interventions with human participants, and collect and analyse blood and other human tissue samples.
