Position available for an outstanding Postdoctoral researcher(s) with expertise in multi-scale urban climate modelling and/or data anaylsis to participate in the ERC-Synergy research project urbisphere as soon as possible.

Position available for 1or 2 outstanding Postdoctoral researchers with expertise in multi-scale urban climate modelling and/or data analysis to participate in funded research projects including: ERC-Synergy urbisphere, NERC COSMA and Met Office projects. This is a full-time fixed term position for one person for a period up to 48 months or full time for two people for a period of up to 24 months each, with possibility for extension.

Research includes understanding the overheating risk and heatwaves in Colombo, Sri Lanka; improving land surface modelling, agent based modelling, UM modelling, flux analyses. Joint a dynamic group of researchers working together on urban atmosphere exchanges.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct the urban climate modelling in cities (e.g. Colombo, London, Berlin, Paris) using urban land surface models (e.g. SUEWS, MORUSES) offline and online (e.g., WRF-SUEWS, UM, IFS).
  • Develop GIS overheating risk/mitigation potential maps (e.g. Colombo) to be used by local government and professional bodies
  • Contribute to the development of improvements to urban canopy model schemes considering momentum, radiation, anthropogenic heat, moisture and other scalars
  • Organize stakeholder workshops to engage local partners
