Postdoctoral Research Associate in Renewable Zero Carbon Fuels

Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QR

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Renewable Zero Carbon Fuels to work under the supervision of Professor Bill David FRS for a period of up to 48 months. The project involves the synthesis and characterisation of next-generation ammonia synthesis catalysts and links up with computational studies performed by other members of the project.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to a project “ Next generation ammonia synthesis: a highly integrated computational modelling and experimental approach ” working with Professor Bill David FRS in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Chemistry in the University of Oxford.

The project involves a collaboration between University of Glasgow (Professor Justin Hargreaves), University College London (PI Professor Richard Catlow FRS), University of Southampton (PI Professor Andrew Hector) and University of Oxford (PI Professor Bill David FRS).

Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science (or be close to completion) prior to taking up this appointment.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow. The post requires experience in solid-state chemistry, catalysis and thermodynamic, spectroscopic and diffraction techniques.

The successful candidate will be expected to manage their own academic research and administrative activities. This will involve small-scale project management to meet deadlines and to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work both within the University of Oxford and with the other three university members of the consortium.

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry (Inorganic). The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday, Thursday 24 November 2022. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.

You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.

The University of Oxford is a Bronze Athena SWAN holder and the Department of Chemistry is a Silver award holder. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
