Postdoctoral Research Associate in Metabolomics

Department of Chemistry, Chemistry Research Laboratory, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford Grade 7: £33,309 - £40,927 per annum

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Metabolomics to work on a collaborative research project with Professor James McCullagh, Director of Mass Spectrometry Research Facility on a research project, initially for a period of 12 months with the possibility for extension.

The role will involve conducting a metabolomics method development and application project to explore the capabilities of ion-chromatography coupled directly to Orbitrap mass spectrometry (IC-MS) for untargeted and targeted metabolomics. Using state of the art instrumentation supplied by our project partner ThermoFisher Scientific, the role will focus on exploring technical capabilities and applying IC-MS in a number of research projects. Other duties will include helping organise, workshops, writing manuscripts, grant applications and making presentations at conferences.

You should hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in Analytical Chemistry, Mass Spectrometry applications in biochemistry, biomedical research or a related area. You should be familiar with the use of multiple liquid chromatography methods coupled to Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry and the preparation of biological samples (cells, tissues and bio-fluids) for mass spectrometry-based metabolomics.

The post will be based in the Mass Spectrometry Research Facility, Department of Chemistry, Mansfield Road, Oxford.
