  • About the Role In this exciting role as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in JWST (James Webb Space Telescope), you will undertake research on the formation and evolution of massive galaxies at high redshift using imaging and spectroscopy from JWST. Research topics are broad and can include morphology, stellar populations, formation times, initial mass function, formation times, galaxy kinematics and angular momentum. In addition, the successful candidate will conduct research activities and contribute to research output of the Centre, both individually and as part of a team, publish astronomical research in international refereed journals, contribute to funding and telescope proposals, attend national and international meetings to present research results, and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students as required. The successful applicant will be embedded in and supported by the Laureate Group led by Prof. Karl Glazebrook which contains a diverse range of research and researchers involved in six active JWST Cycle 1 programs and who also make extensive use of the HST, Keck and VLT facilities.

    To be considered for this role please address the below Key Selection Criteria:

  • Experience and knowledge of high-redshift galaxy evolution with prior research in topics related to massive galaxy evolution that can include stellar populations, formation times, initial mass function, formation times, galaxy kinematics and angular momentum.
  • Experience working with imaging or spectroscopy data from large telescopes.
  • Experience working with HST or JWST data
  • Demonstrated research skills through publication track record in peer- reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated time and project management skills
  • Qualifications PhD in astronomy or astrophysics
