Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemistry

Department of Chemistry, Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, New Biochemistry Building, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU

About the role

This post is for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Andrew Baldwin for up to 2 years in the first instance.

Membraneless organelles, formed via a phase separation are emerging as an important mechanism for cellular regulation. The focus of the position will be investigating aspects of these bodies formed both in vitro and in vivo, to understand their properties. We hypothesise that these bodies are effectively regions of organic solvent, suspended within cells and the goal of this project will be to test this. This presents an exciting opportunity to demonstrate how fundamental principles from physical chemistry have been incorporated into cellular function.

About you

Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related area, or be close to completion, prior to taking up your appointment. We are seeking expertise in protein biochemistry: the project requires expression of protein from E.Coli or animal cell lines to test biological and mechanistic hypothesis. Expertise is also required in some area of quantitative biomolecular characterisation from, biophysics, structural biology or microscopy. You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines as agreed in advance.

Application Process
