This appointment represents an exciting new development by the University to build on current research into soil GHG fluxes, and further develop a relationship with Farming Online, who will be developing the GIS based phone app aimed at helping farmers minimize soil carbon loss associated with tillage.

Working in close partnership with our partners, the successful candidate will be analysing field and lab-based analyses to identify opportunities and trade- offs for reducing soil greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with tillage whilst maintaining productivity.

Suitable candidates will hold a PhD in soil science, agriculture, or environmental science, plus existing knowledge of or a strong interest in soil GHG fluxes and the sustainability of crop production. Expertise in data science and analysis, or evidence of significant interest in this area is also required. The successful candidate will be working within an academic group including a range of research areas. The candidate will therefore need to be able to work within a diverse team and to communicate effectively with all industry stakeholders, including academics, industry professionals, retailers and farmers. Evidence of research experience, including relevant publications in this or a related area is essential. In addition to delivering this specific research project within the strategic partnership, the postholder will also be expected to present findings at appropriate industry and academic meetings and to publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
