Description

Postdoctoral Research Assistant

11a Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3SZ

The SalGo Team at the Department of Biology of Oxford in collaboration with the Oxford Robotics Institute at the Department of Engineering at Oxford are looking for a postdoctoral research assistant position for an initial tenure of one year, with additional extensions possible, conditional on performance and success of grants currently under review. The PDRA will join two highly dynamic research groups but will be physically based in the brand-new Department of Biology, under the supervision of Prof Rob Salguero-Gómez, in close supervision with Prof Nick Hawes (Oxford Robotics Institute). The PDRA will join an on-going interdisciplinary project of ecologist and robotics engineers, where a novel pipeline to automated ecological data collection is being developed, validated, and tested in different sites around Oxford, to monitor the effects of climate change on native plant communities. The technologies include autonomous robots and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles, aka drones), LIDAR, hyperspectral, and visible range data collection of native grassland communities. The PDRA will liaise with stakeholders at Wytham Woods, where the pipeline has been initially developed during the last two years, and help test it and expand it to other locations around Oxfordshire in collaboration with our partners: the Botanical Gardens of the University of Oxford at its Harcourt Arboretum, Blenheim Palace, and the BBOWT.
