Overview:

About the Role

We have found in a 3D model of harlequin ichthyosis, a rare genetic skin disease, that inhibition of epidermal signaling can restore the skin barrier (JCI). This project funded by the medical charity, LifeArc, will test various kinase inhibitors in 3D models of ichthyosis and in an in vivo model.

Towards these goals, a number of technologies will be utilized including generation of 3D organotypics with immunostaining and imaging, lipidomics, RNA sequencing and in vivo work.

About You

You will be a scientist with a PhD in a relevant area (e.g. Cell Biology, Cell Signaling). A background in cell culture, cell biology and microscopy is essential for this position. Experience of RNA sequencing analysis and in vivo work would be an advantage.

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days' leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is full time and fixed-term for 2 years. The starting salary will be £34,733.

This ambitious project will be based within the Centre for Cell Biology and Cutaneous Research under the supervision of Professor Edel O'Toole. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact her prior to the deadline with any questions. We believe we are poised to make further significant contributions to this exciting and emerging field, and are therefore seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with an interest in skin biology to join our team.

Queen Mary's commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Professor Edel O'Toole ( e.a.otoole@qmul.ac.uk )

The closing date for applications is 04 November 2021. Interviews are expected to be held shortly thereafter.
