Postdoctoral Research Assistant – Interaction of microbes with plant roots

The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research
Assistant - Engineering synthetic signaling between plants and microbes, for 6
months. The supporting grant is held by Professor Phil Poole and the work is
to be conducted in his lab in the Department of Plant Sciences, University of
Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3RB.
We study how bacteria associate with plant roots. The successful candidate
will use RNAseq and proteomics to study the signalling pathway between plants
and microbes. You will join a large multidisciplinary group working on
understanding bacterial root colonisation and microbiome function, regulation
of N2 fixation and the use of synthetic biology to engineer plant microbe
The postholder should have Experience of: Proteomics, molecular biology;
bacterial genetics; microbiology and/or plant biology, biochemistry. High
motivation with intellectual curiosity and rigour. Relevant PhD or equivalent,
or be close to completion, and publication record. Ability to work
independently and manage multiple tasks. Ability to assimilate and evaluate
the relevant literature and its implications. Willingness and ability to
communicate with colleagues and to assist their work. Social responsibility in
the laboratory. Statistical and data analysis skills. Ability to present data
to colleagues and non-specialist audiences. Desirable: Ability to write
effective scientific papers. Advanced experience in synthetic biology .
