Postdoctoral Research Assistant in AI for Robot Decision-Making

Oxford Robotics Institute, Central Oxford

We are looking for a full-time post-doctoral research assistant to join the GOALS group (https:// ori.ox.ac.uk/labs/goals/) within the Oxford Robotics Institute (ORI), Department of Engineering Science (based in central Oxford). The post is funded by EPSRC as part of the Programme Grant in Embodied Intelligence (https: // embodiedintelligence.web.ox.ac.uk), and is fixed term to the 31st January 2026.

The successful applicant will help drive our research on decision-making for autonomous system, and have freedom to address problems of interest in this area within the remit of the Programme Grant. Their role will be to develop and deliver new research ideas on sequential decision-making, whilst also working within a larger group of students and postdocs, plus academic and industrial supervisors.

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic about applying Artificial Intelligence techniques to autonomous systems, whilst also developing underpinning techniques for modelling and solving planning problems under uncertainty. Since our work spans domains such as decision-theoretic planning, reinforcement learning, control, formal methods, multi-robot systems, and human-robot collaboration, experience in one or more of these areas is desirable.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Nick Hawes ([email protected]).

The Oxford Robotics Institute is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that welcomes individuals from all backgrounds. The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology
