    CANCER SIGNALLING & THERAPEUTICS group led by prof. Igor Štagljar, the Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences is announcing a competition for the employment of postdoctoral position.

    The title of the project is "Identifying novel approaches for targeting small GTPase-driven tumours using high-throughput experimental and artificial intelligence-directed proteomics technologies”

    The main objective of the project

    Our project seeks to identify new therapies for targeting small GTPase-driven cancers, which are largely untreatable and present a significant disease burden. The novelty of our proposal is based on an integrated platform combining two new proteomics technologies recently developed in our lab, Mammalian Membrane Two-Hybrid Drug-Screening MaMTH-DS; Saraon et al (2020) Nature Chemical Biology 16(5):577-586 and Split Intein-Mediated Protein Ligation (SIMPL; Yao et al (2020) Nature Communications 11(1):2440, with cutting edge artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed for proteome- scale, small-molecule identification. The approach will take advantage of the ability of MaMTH-DS/SIMPL to detect compounds with diverse mechanisms of action, enhanced by AI-directed compound library generation, to identify new small-molecules targeting currently undruggable mutant RAS proteins associated with major cancers. Additionally, we will employ MaMTH and SIMPL variants in high-throughput proteomics screens to create comprehensive, high-resolution maps of the shared/differential interactions of WT and mutant small GTPases, helping identify novel therapeutic targets. Overall, we seek to provide new approaches to address the serious challenges associated with treatment of small GTPase-driven cancers.

    Benefits

    Initially a 2-year contract (trial period 6 months), with a possibility of extension until the end of the project; net salary range is 1200-1800 EUR per month, depending on the previous experience, skills and years of employment at MedlLS; free accommodation at MedILS residential quarter for the first 1-3 months upon arrival.
