A 2-year postdoctoral fellowship is available from March 1st 2022 , or as
soon as possible here after, at the Departments of Biology at the University
of Copenhagen, Denmark.
The research project
You will join GRADCATCH, an international research project within the
BiodivERsA EU Horizon 2020 network. GRADCATCH aims at deciphering the impact
of climate change on soil microbial activity and diversity at the phylogenetic
and functional levels along natural gradients in temperature and precipitation
in Greenland, Europe and South Africa. You will mainly work on large data sets
involving PCR amplicon sequences, metagenomes and metatranscriptomes from soil
samples collected along the gradients, including an extensive soil
transplantation experiment. The DNA sequence data will be linked to a large
number of soil and microbial parameters. The experimental setup allows us to
unravel the short- and long-term effects of climate change and we expect that
our data sets will enable us to untangle the effects of changes in temperature
and precipitation/soil water content on soil microbial activity and diversity.
You will be based at Section of Microbiology, University of Copenhagen, but
will work closely together with other GRADCATCH postdocs and PhD students in
Switzerland, Spain, South Africa, and USA.
The postdoc's duties will include research within soil microbial ecology as
well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.
We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious researcher who is
interested in soil microbial ecology and keen on working with Annotation and
assembly of DNA and cDNA sequences. Applicants with the following
proficiencies will be regarded qualified and will be prioritized:
PhD ((required) in (micro)biology or environmental sciences
Knowledge in microbial ecology, bioinformatics and multivariate statistics
Strong skillsets in analysing large data sets of DNA and cDNA sequences
Fluency in English (oral and writing)
Proven track record of scientific publications.
The candidate is expected to have qualifications and interests in at least one
of the following topics:
Soil microbial ecology
Annotation and assembly of DNA and cDNA sequences
Multivariate statistical analyses
