Postdoctoral position in compound extremes and Mediterranean cyclones at

the University of Bern

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position. The project scientist will investigate the co-occurrence of extreme weather associated with Mediterranean cyclones. The project is part of the Medcyclones Cost action (https: // www. cost.eu/cost-action/european-network-for-mediterranean- cyclones-in-weather-and-climate/). The aim of the project is to quantify the co-occurrence of different types of extremes in Mediterranean cyclones and along their fronts. The project is funded for 18-months by the Swiss Science Foundation and starts in the first half of 2022.

The project scientist will collaborate with Olivia Romppainen-Martius at the University of Bern, with Shira Raveh-Rubin at the Weizmann Institute and with Jennifer Catto at the University of Exeter and will be hosted at the University of Bern.

Tasks

We seek a scientist with research experience in meteorology, climatology and with a strong background in statistical data analysis and interest in active collaborations within the Medcyclones Cost action.

Requirements

Applicants must have a PhD in meteorology, climate sciences, statistics or related subjects. Regardless of background, the successful applicant will have an interactive personality, is willing to closely exchange across institutions and ideally spend some time at the partner institutions, has the ability to carry out research in an interdisciplinary environment, and has a strong desire to disseminate results to both scientific and lay audiences. Fluency in English (written and spoken) and strong communication skills are required.
