The MRC BNDU and the WIN are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral
Neuroscientist who will investigate neuronal mechanisms of memory using
state-of-the art tools available in rodents, including electrophysiological,
calcium imaging, optogenetics and/or behavioural methods. The project is part
of a broader research programme designed to use cross-species research to
uncover mechanisms for memory in both health and disease. Together with other
members of the team, the post-holder will design parallel tasks for rodents
and humans and apply comparable analytical approaches to data across species.
Cell and circuit mechanisms identified in rodents will therefore be used to
inform our understanding of human cognition and behaviour.
In addition to having a PhD (or M.D.) or equivalent qualification in a
relevant research discipline, candidates should have a promising track record
of original research in their field of research. Candidates are also expected
to have technical expertise in one or more of the following: (1)
electrophysiology; (2) optical monitoring/manipulation of cell activity;
(3) techniques for quantifying animal behaviour; (4) data analysis,
including machine learning and computational methods. In addition, candidates
should provide evidence of creative and critical thinking as applied to the
development and execution of a cohesive programme of research. A background of
research in memory is desirable.
The post holder will be part of the Barron Group based at the MRC BNDU and
WIN. The Group has a strong track record in conducting cross-species research
to investigate how cells and circuits in the brain work together to perform
computations that support memory. The proposed research will take full
advantage of the intellectual environment, capital equipment, technical
expertise and excellent infrastructure in place at the MRC BNDU and WIN.
