Description

Postdoctoral Neuroscientist

MRC Brain Network Dynamics Unit (MRC BNDU), Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TH.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Neuroscientist to conduct original research, provide specialist expertise, and communicate empirical discoveries, as part of a scientific programme that uses rodents to elucidate the role of cortico- basal ganglia circuits in cost-benefit decision making and develop clinically- relevant methods of manipulating these circuits.

The post holder will be part of the Sharott Group based at the MRC Brain Network Dynamics Unit, University of Oxford. The Group has a strong track record in studying the functional organisation of the cortico-basal ganglia- thalamic networks in rodents and humans. The Group use transdisciplinary approaches to elucidate the substrates underlying activity dynamics in these brain circuits, employing innovative techniques to monitor and manipulate neurons and to determine their influence on behaviour. The proposed research will take full advantage of the intellectual environment, capital equipment, technical expertise and excellent infrastructure in place at the MRC BNDU.

You will have a Ph.D in a relevant area of biological research, (this can be held or submitted at time of starting) , and laboratory experience with in vivo electrophysiological techniques to investigate forebrain microcircuits in behaving rats. It is also essential to have experience of advising/training junior members of a research team. Experience of neuroanatomical methods, including microscopy is a desirable.

The post is full time for a fixed term of 1 year in the first instance (starting after 1st October 2022).

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on (01.07.2022) will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
