  • A tender is hereby opened for the award of 1 Postdoctoral Fellowship, financed by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization, in the scope of the Project “IntegraValor - Estratégia integrada de valorização de subprodutos agroalimentares”, with the reference POCI-01-0247-FEDER-072241.

    The main tasks of this plan are:

    1) Analysis of the nutritional value and physicochemical parameters of natural matrices (solid-state fermentation residues);

    2) Chemical characterization of the matrices using chromatography and spectrometry techniques;

    3) Optimization of extraction processes for coloring compounds, namely anthocyanins, using conventional and innovative methods and response surface methodology;

    4) Evaluation of stability and bioactive properties of the coloring extracts;

    5) Exploitation and dissemination of the obtained results.

    The fellowship will have an initial duration of 12 months, starting on October 18, 2021, with the possibility of renewal up to the limit defined in the applicable Regulation.

    Applications must be formalized by email to lillian@ipb.pt, accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum vitae, PhD certificate or equivalent document, and a motivation letter. The call is open from 17/09/2021 to 30/09/2021 and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted.

    Benefits

    The fellowship will have a duration of 20 months, starting on 18/10/2021. The fellows will benefit of a salary of €1646 as per the table of remuneration of FCT, I.P. The fellow will also benefit from a personal accident insurance, and if not included in any social security protocol, may adhere to the Portuguese Social Security through the Seguro Social Voluntário (Voluntary Social Security), in the terms present in the Portuguese Código dos Regimes Contributivos do Sistema Previdencial de Segurança Social. The monthly salary will be payed monthly by bank transfer.

    Eligibility criteria

    1) PhD in Pharmacy and Health, Bromatology and Nutrition, Food Chemistry, or related fields.

    2) Experience and knowledge in the activities that will be developed during the contract.

    3) Theoretical and practical knowledge in physicochemical and nutritional characterization of foodstuff, extraction and characterization of bioactive molecules and colorants, and evaluation of bioactivities of natural extracts.

    4) Proficiency in the English language (written and oral communication) will also be valued.

    Selection process

    The selection methods to be used will be as follows:

    a) Curriculum assessment and its suitability for the proposed work plan (40%);

    b) Experience in extraction and characterization of bioactive compounds and process optimization (40%);

    c) Interview (20%).

    The selection jury will be composed by Doctor Lillian Barros (President of the Jury), Doctor José Pinela, and Doctor Maria Inês Dias.

    The final results of the evaluation will be sent by email to the candidates.

    The candidates may lodge a complaint against the final decision, within 10 working days after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of the Administrative Procedure.

    An appeal may be filed against the final decision to the President of IPB within 15 working days after the respective notification.
