Postdoctoral fellowship in Theoretical Computer Science

Department of Computer Science Faculty of Science

University of Copenhagen

The Department of Computer Science at the Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen (DIKU) is offering postdoctoral positions in theoretical computer science tentatively commencing 1 September 2024 (but the starting date is negotiable).

The postdoc's duties will include research within Theoretical Computer Science as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.

Description of the scientific environment The PostDoc will be part of a world-leading research environment in Theoretical Computer Science. We are home to the Basic Algorithms Research Copenhagen (BARC) centre joint with the IT University of Copenhagen, and have extensive collaborations with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and with Lund University on the Swedish side of the Oresund Bridge, as well as with our many visitors.

We aim to attract top talent from around the world to an ambitious, creative, collaborative, and fun environment. Using the power of mathematics, we strive to create fundamental breakthroughs in algorithms and complexity theory. While our focus in on theoretical research, we do have a track record of surprising algorithmic discoveries leading to major industrial applications.

The University of Copenhagen was founded in 1479 and is the oldest and largest university in Denmark. It is often ranked as the best university in Scandinavia and consistently as one of the top places in Europe.

Further information about the Department of Computer Science and the Faculty of Science can be found here. Inquiries about the positions can be made to Mikkel Abrahamsen ([email protected]), Jakob Nordström ([email protected]), Rasmus Pagh ([email protected]), or Mikkel Thorup ([email protected]). Candidates interested in working with other faculty from DIKU at the BARC center are also encouraged to apply.

Job description These are full-time research positions. Teaching of advanced courses is encouraged but not required. Travel funding is included, and the group also receives visitors on a regular basis.

The University of Copenhagen is currently expanding strongly in computer science. We expect to have tenure-track openings in theoretical computer science in the near future, and welcome postdoctoral researchers interested in exploring such opportunities.

The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
