Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Surgical Oncology within Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will assist with the conduct of cancer epidemiologic, health services and clinical studies and analyses in support of the specialized research activities of the laboratory. The Postdoctoral Fellow will perform professional and scientific research in the areas of cancer prevention and early diagnosis, especially in areas of epidemiological study designs, cancer development, risk factors, cancer epidemiology, blood biomarkers, statistical analyses and interpretation. This position seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to work closely with PI to develop protocols for grant and IRB submissions, enroll subjects onto studies, collect and manage study data, develop and administer surveys, collect study samples, oversee the storage and analysis of samples, assist with analysis of data, and assist with preparation and submission of manuscripts.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Assist in the design, coordination and conduct of research projects.
  • Access and utilize data from large population-based data sets to develop and expand on research questions.
  • Comfortable running basic statistical programs to present data both numerically and graphically.
  • Manage participant recruitment and enrollment at CINJ and other study sites.
  • Assist PI in survey development and administer surveys to study participants.
  • Assists in preparing and submitting research related regulatory documents to the IRB including initial application, annual progress reports, consent forms, amendments and modifications for funded studies.
  • Maintains neat, thorough, and up-to-date records, files and laboratory research databases.
  • Be responsible for research specimen tracking, processing, organization, and analysis, maintain detailed records of all experiments and activities.
  • Assists with manuscript and presentation preparations.
  • Compiles and analyzes data with appropriate conclusions and plans for further investigation, publications, and grant applications. Will present data to PI and other lab members.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a relevant science finishing their training (following their residency and/or fellowship) who wish to prepare for careers in academic medicine.
  • Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience in health services, epidemiology, and/or clinical research experience including work with research subjects, collection of clinical samples, clinical data and familiarity with IRB requirements and regulatory documentation.
