Posting Details Working Title Postdoctoral Fellow

Position Number TSG680 Appointment Type Tenure Track No FTE If time limited, duration date

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Centers for Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) and the Computational Center for Fundamental and Applied Science and Education (CCFASE) unite investigators from five departments in the College of Health and Sciences at North Carolina Central University, leveraging established strengths in computational and experimental research and education across the departmental disciplines. Our goal is to use computational science as a focus for developing strong interdisciplinary, integrative research activities and research-based educational training that enhances the existing undergraduate and graduate programs at NCCU, and to establish an infrastructure and level of student participation suitable to justify, both in student quality and quantity, the future establishment of Ph.D. programs, thus expanding the University's ability to increase minority representation in the sciences.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Postdoctoral Researcher in Materials Science will carry out research and duties related to the NSF sponsored project: Excellence in Research: Mechanisms of Hyperdoping Silicon with Nitrogen (EiR Hyperdoping Silicon).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The Research Scientist will support the PI's research and all activities related to the EiR Project. The postdoctoral scientist is required to develop strong collaborations with the PI's research group members and the students, as well as off-campus collaboration related to research on hyperdoping silicon and related topics. He/she will be supervised scientifically and administratively by the PI of the project. Highly interactive interpersonal skills for effective communication with project team members and scientists are required.

The postdoctoral scientist must have strong experience in i) silicon and germanium processing (e.g., hyperdoping, delta doping, ion implantation, heat treatments for materials recrystallization, CMOS processing, diffusion,…), ii) Delineation of structural defects and electrically active defects in semiconductors, iii) Elemental analysis using Z-contrast and EELS under HR TEM, iv) Radiative and non-radiative transitions, v) Multiscale modeling of defects (from point defects to extended defects) and stress and strain in materials, and vi) Analytical techniques: Photoluminescence, nanoprobe techniques (AFM, NSOM, TERS, nanoFTIR,…), and HR TEM.

The applicant must have published in the above listed research areas.

The ideal candidate must have done research on silicon hyperdoping and understands the driving mechanisms.

Minimum Education/Experience Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation

Ph.D. in Physics or Materials Science and Engineering or equivalent (e.g., Nanoengineering, Physics Engineering, Electric Engineering/specialty materials, or Mechanical Engineering/specialty materials).

Equal Opportunity Employer

North Carolina Central University is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a protected veteran.
