The project investigates the molecular causes of autoimmune inflammatory
diseases, especially ankylosing spondylitis (Morbus Bechterew), which are
statistically associated with the occurrence of certain alleles of the human
leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I proteins. We will investigate the molecular
properties of these proteins and the effects that they cause in the cells that
produce them. Methods include mammalian cell culture, fluorescence microscopy,
flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation, but also isolation, purification, and
analysis of proteins.
