The Department of Medicine, Division of Clinical Pharmacology, in collaboration with the Stark Neurosciences Research Institute ( SNRI) at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), Indianapolis, Indiana is seeking a qualified candidate to join our investigative cellular pharmacology lab of the Alzheimer's Disease Drug Discovery Center. This position is for a full-time postdoctoral fellow which will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience in preparing for a career in drug discovery research.

The primary responsibilities of this postdoctoral fellow will be:

  • Generation of hypothesis for target identification and validation. Design and perform cell-based assays testing drug molecules in vitro activities with methods such as western blot for proteins, ELISA, and other homogeneous cell assays with plate reader, flow cytometry, cellular imaging, immunocytochemistry, histology, detection of molecular interactions such as protein-protein or drug-protein interactions, extraction, and measurement of cellular mRNA, PCR methods.
  • Maintain cell cultures to ensure the cellular pharmacology experiments needs including setting up and maintaining cell cultures, passage cells, freezing and stocking cell lines, and reviving frozen cells. Experiments will use various cell lines, iPSC, and primary cells.
  • Establish cellular models for in vitro studies. Experiences on transient and stable transfection of cells for protein expression and cell cloning. Experience with gene knockout and editing with siRNA or CRISPR-Cas9 methods are helpful.
  • Skills in data analysis with software including basic statistical analysis.
  • Opportunities to write manuscripts for publication, and develop and submit grant proposals for career development.
  • Excellent communication skills with proficiency in written and verbal English.
  • Must work well both independently and as a team player. Experience with laboratory management skills, as well as mentoring junior researchers and students is also desirable.

    Basic Qualifications

    Doctoral or terminal degree required. Prefer an individual with a PhD degree with laboratory research experience in cell and molecular biology, pharmacology, biotechnology and drug discovery, biochemistry and molecular biology, or other biological sciences. Must possess a good understanding of cell and molecular biology, have a curiosity and ability to learn fast, attention to detail and capable to work on multiple projects. Laboratory management skills and the ability to effectively work in team-oriented research projects are also desirable.
