  • A postdoctoral contract is available from November 2022 at the New Approaches in Radiotherapy lab at Institut Curie-Orsay (CNRS UMR 3347, INSERM 1021, University Paris-Saclay), in Orsay (25 Kms south of Paris) in the field of radiobiology of innovative radiotherapy methods (proton minibeam radiation therapy and proton FLASH therapy).

    The New approaches in Radiotherapy (NARA) lab pioneers the conception and development of new methods in radiotherapy and their distinct radiobiology. As we do not believe in frontiers, NARA was born in 2013 with an interdisciplinary and international visions.

    Work Context

    Radiotherapy (RT) is one of the most frequently used methods for cancer treatment (above 50% of patients will receive RT). Despite remarkable advancements, the dose tolerances of normal tissues continue to be the main limitation in RT. Finding novel approaches that allow increasing normal tissue resistance is of utmost importance. This would make it possible to escalate tumour dose, resulting in an improvement in cure rate. With this aim, we work in two innovative techniques, proton minibeam radiation therapy (MBRT) and proton FLASH, which have already been shown to drastically reduce neurotoxicity while providing an equivalent or superior tumor (glioma) control than standard RT in small animal experiments.

    Profile and duties

    We are seeking an enthusiast fellow with interest in radiobiology who will work on the investigation of the biological mechanisms of proton MBRT and proton FLASH. He/She will help with the experimental design and coordinate the experiments (both in vivo and in vitro). The candidate should hold a PhD in (radio)biology, neurobiology, veterinary or medicine.

    Job offer
