Dr. Jonathan P. Singer, Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering
(Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, USA) is seeking applications from
qualified individuals for a full-time postdoctoral associate position working
on a collaborative industrial grant in the field of vaccine delivery. The
position will begin as early as March, 2022 and looks build on our current
effort, which has been translated into clinical trials. The primary role of a
successful candidate will be to develop electrospray technology for the
efficient deposition of bioactive coatings. The position will also involve the
furthering technologies for the delivery of the coated materials into living
tissue. The associate will be responsible for the assembly of custom
experimental setups, the optimization of solutions for the processing of
coatings, and various materials analysis of fabricated coatings including in
vitro and possibly in vivo experiments. Dr. Singer's lab, the Hybrid
Micro/Nanomanufacturing Laboratory (HMNL, https: // hmnl.rutgers.edu),
develops techniques that incorporate designer nanostructures into high-
throughput manufacturing. The HMNL's objective is to enable industrial,
biomedical, and consumer products with the benefits of nanostructure-induced
functionality, with applications spanning healthcare, aerospace propulsion and
acoustics, waste energy harvesting, agriculture, and anti-corrosion barriers.

Minimum Education and Experience
The candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical
Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or other related disciplines.
The candidate should have a very strong background in materials processing,
ideally electrospray deposition. Experience with biological experimentation (
e.g. , gel electrophoresis, HPLC, confocal microscopy, and live animal
experiments) is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
This project is a part of an ongoing multi-investigator collaboration and will
involve close collaborations. Position requires frequent reporting,
supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, and public presentations.
There may also be opportunities to transition the technologies developed in
this project, so experience with technology transition is preferred. This is a
1-year appointment that can be renewed based on applicant performance and
availability of grant funds.
Materials processing and biological laboratory environments. High voltage
equipment. Universal precautions are mandatory.
