General Summary:

Drs. Shabnam Javdani and Erin Godfrey are seeking a postdoctoral-level investigator to work as a member of their research team on SAFE Spaces, a NIH- funded 5-year, cluster randomized control trial in the areas of juvenile justice, mental health disparities (e.g. suicide), systems-level intervention, collaborative approaches to change and trauma-informed care. Targeting the contexts in which incarcerated youth reside, this project involves an effort to create and evaluate the only systematic staff-level training interventions for front-line staff. Training will be co-developed in partnership with NYC's Administration for Children's Services and will incorporate hands-on skills training to foster youth mental health, safety, rights and sociopolitical development.

The primary responsibility is co-developing and directing all data collection and evaluation procedures and materials with a focus on cluster randomized control trials, implementation fidelity and design and analytic considerations for multi-level interventions. Supporting tasks include measurement development for staff and youth, data collection procedures and timelines, and data systems development.

The position will allow for dynamic experience that offers both breadth and depth in the realm of juvenile justice research, intervention and evaluation. The Postdoctoral Research Associate position offers a number of excellent training opportunities, including collaboration with senior and junior members of the research team, exposure to university-community research partnerships, and cross-institutional networking. This position also allows for the development of publications and conference presentations that support the candidate's programmatic research. Competitive post-doctoral salary and attractive fringe benefits are offered and a rich array of NYU graduate/faculty seminars, and special training workshops in research methods and statistics, and in areas of social justice, mental health, implementation science and settings-level approaches are available. One year commitment required with possible option to continue contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Essential Functions:

80% Implementation, Evaluation design, data collection management, analysis, and data systems development

20% Project Management and stakeholder collaboration

  • Experience managing community-based research efforts and directing teams on complex tasks (at least 1 year of such field-based experience strongly preferred)
