About the College/Unit/Department

The Department of Entomology at UGA consists of 35 faculty members situated in a stimulating, multi-campus environment with an excellent reputation in research, extension, and teaching. The three campuses of the University of Georgia (Athens, Tifton, and Griffin) are multidisciplinary, multi-agency facilities with access to well-equipped research farms throughout the state. Opportunities for collaboration within the UGA Pecan Team and with colleagues in other departments and institutions are plentiful and encouraged.

The UGA-Tifton campus is home to 90 scientists and more than 400 support staff. On-campus resources include office, laboratory, greenhouse and rearing space, a 15-acre irrigated research orchard, and all required agricultural machinery.

Designing and making traps, deploying and servicing trap stations in several locations in south and middle GA, and determining the relationship between trap captures and vulnerability of adjacent orchard crops. Training in identification of ambrosia and bark beetles will be provided, and sorting and curating of the beetles captured. Assist in comparing new and current insecticidal active ingredients at different timing and frequencies to reduce ambrosia beetle attacks. Evaluate novel techniques and products as elements of an overall IPM strategy for pest ambrosia beetle species.
