At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in the
field of ‘numerical modelling of water wave propagation in the coastal
zone and of the interaction with coastal structures', with focus on:
acquisition and execution of contracts for research and services in the
field of coastal and offshore engineering;
wave-structure interaction (including the case of shallow foreshores)
and study of wave propagation;
modelling of the wave-induced response of those structures in numerical
wave flumes and wave basins, using numerical time domain models (with
focus on development and application of SWASH and MILDwave);
and assistance in carrying out field measurements along the Belgian
coastal zone (focus on Raversijde).
You will assist in teaching activities at the Master's level.
You will counsel Master's students in their exercises, work placement and

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You hold a doctoral degree (Doctor of Civil Engineering or an equivalent
For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence
(NARIC) must be submitted.
The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
You have already conducted research (with proven experience) within the
theoretical (mathematical) developments and practical applications of time domain propagation models (particularly with SWASH and MILDwave with contributions to the source code), and also experience with models based on the Boussinesq and mild slope equations;
wave-structure interaction (including the case of shallow foreshores;
physical model experiments for wave loading and overtopping of coastal structures;
You have proved experience with programming languages (Fortran, C++),
used for contributing to the further development of the source code of
You have further expanded your experience through, for example, Master
after Master studies in the field of hydraulics, coastal engineering or a
similar relevant domain.
You have proven experience in supporting teaching activities of university
students and mentoring of Master Thesis students.
You have proven experience in supporting international course activities.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
We offer you a temporary part-time (60%) appointment as a postdoctoral
assistant () of 3 years. A second appointment of up to 3 years can
follow, subject to a favourable evaluation of the first term.
Even if you have already been appointed earlier (whether or not at another
university and whether or not in the same field of discipline) in a first
term of up to three years, you can apply.
