The lab on cardiovascular imaging and dynamics (CVID) of the department of cardiovascular sciences at the University of Leuven has a longstanding tradition in the development of novel ultrasound imaging approaches. At present, it is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to strengthen the team in the context of a project focusing on knee imaging in a collaborative effort with orthopaedics and electrical engineering. The project will be followed-up by prof. D'hooge of the Lab on Cardiovascular Imaging & Dynamics of the department of Cardiovascular Sciences of the University of Leuven (www. Daily activities will take place in the Medical Imaging Research Center (MIRC; https: //, a multi-disciplinary research institute where around 100 researchers work on fundamental and translational research in the area of medical imaging and image processing.

The postdoctoral researcher will develop and experimentally validate novel image reconstruction algorithms using bespoke ultrasound transducers in order to generate high quality volumetric images of the knee ligaments. Algorithmic development will be based on synthetically generated data with subsequent experimental verification on an open ultrasound platform using commercial wire and cystic targets as well as using mock model setups (including a cadaver knee rig model).Towards the end of the project, acoustic safety testing will be done in order to obtain pilot data and first images in-vivo. The project will be executed in close collaboration with PhD/postdoc students working in orthopedics and electrical engineering.

  • You have a PhD degree in ultrasound engineering, preferably in beam forming
  • You have good programming skills (i.e. are acquainted with Matlab and/or C++)
  • You are practical in that you are able to build experimental setups
  • You are fluent in oral and written English
  • You are enthusiastic and result oriented
  • You are a team player and communicate well
  • Offer

We offer a 1-year postdoc position with market conform wages in a large, multidisciplinary research center in the heart of Europe. The position is immediately available and can be extended.
