Postdoc position: Strategic Communication

The postdoc position is available at the Institute for Media Studies, a
research unit within the Department of Communication Sciences, Faculty of
Social Sciences, KU Leuven (Belgium). KU Leuven represents a leading

The postdoc position Strategic Communication is situated at Institute for
Media Studies – an internationally oriented research unit studying the
production, effects and meanings of (digital) media and communication. The
research group produces innovative and critical scientific research with a
particular focus on media culture and policy; journalism and news; human-
computer-interaction; strategy and marketing. This vacancy can be particularly
situated in the latter domain.
This postdoc Strategic Communication offers a position in teaching and
research. On the one hand, the candidate will teach courses in the Master
‘Bedrijfscommunicatie' and ‘Communicatiewetenschappen' on internal- and
external communication in/of (business) organizations. Possible courses are
'Advertising', 'Evidence-based Stategische Communicatie',
'Bedrijfscommunicatie', 'Interne Communicatie'. Course material is available
and the candidate will have a teaching assistant to fully support her/him in
coordinating courses and teaching.
On the other hand, the candidate will have the opportunity to further develop
research in the broad field of strategic communication at the Institute for
Media Studies. (S)he will publish in international peer-reviewed journals
and write research proposals for (international) funds and grants.
Alternatively, projects can be developed at IMS in which bridges are built
between academia and (media) organizations and companies outside academia.
In offering these possibilities, the position Strategic Communication aims to
provide a springboard for a solid career in academia or the private sector.
Should have obtained a PhD in communication sciences or social sciences
Has an academic profile related to strategic communication, either focused on
internal- or external communication or both (e.g., demonstrated by
international peer-reviewed publications, PhD-thesis)
Has the ambition to pursue an academic career in communication sciences or the
private (commercial/media) field, but has a strong affinity with bridging
Has experience in lecturing at the university and/or (business)
organizations and has good teaching skills and didactic qualities
Speaks Dutch and English language fluently
A 1-year contract that starts on 1 October 2021.
