  • At the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences – Agrosphere (IBG-3) we conduct research to improve our understanding of biogeochemical and hydrological processes in terrestrial systems. We use a combination of experiments, modelling and innovative observation technologies to bridge the gap between model, process and management scale. Our research contributes to the sustainable and resource-conserving use of soils and water and to the quantification of the effect of climate and land use change on terrestrial ecosystems.     Postdoc Position - Crop Yield Modelling and Biogeochemical P Cycling

    Your Job:

    In the framework of the BMBF funded joint project ‘Innovative solutions to sustainable soil phosphorus management' we conduct research to optimize the soil phosphorus (P) use efficiency for getting independent of the use of mineral P-fertilizer. For this, we will use a simulation approach based on the diffusive gradient in thin films (DGT) P content under varying management or climatic scenarios. In this project your tasks include:

  • Establishing and integrate a P module into the already existing AgroC model based on a well-established P pool and cycling concept

  • Using this model to predict yield response to P-fertilization based on DGT-P

  • Establishing a link between the most relevant labile inorganic P model pools and plant available soil P contents analyzed using DGT technique

  • Validating the established P module using data from different long-term experimental field sites

  • Your Profile:

  • Masters degree in agricultural or environmental sciences, physics, or computer sciences

  • Documented experience in programming with Fortran, R, or Python

  • Knowledge in the fields crop nutrient uptake, modelling, and related disciplines is preferred

  • Ability to cooperate in an interdisciplinary and international team

  • Strong English writing and communication skills as well as an organized way of working
