We are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher to work on electronic structure modeling of interfaces in semiconductor devices in realistic conditions.

Information about the project and the division Searches for materials with specific properties are the bottlenecks of many emerging semiconductor technologies, such as quantum computing, electronics and solar energy conversion. Properties matching a desired function are key to the introduction of new technologies, but as development approaches final implementation, all components need to be tuned for a harmonious coexistence within a micro-device via doping, surface functionalization, nano-scale engineering, or other methods. From the point of view of first-principles modeling, a microdevice is a stack of functional layers (1, 2 or 3D, organic or inorganic), separated by interfaces - i.e. volumes within which the proximity or bonding between two neighboring materials influences the properties, and causes a deviation from the bulk state. The present project will focus on modeling of polarons and charge defects at finite temperatures and at interfaces. In particular, the candidate will apply techniques based on neural networks to accelerate molecular dynamics simulations of excess charges in materials.

You will join the Condensed Matter and Materials Theory (CMMT) division at the Physics department of Chalmers University of Technology. The CMMT division comprises about 20 researchers, who combine theoretical, methodological and computational techniques, often in close collaboration with local and international experimental groups. The work in the division is characterized by a strong interplay between fundamental and applied research and this allows us to address pressing societal issues, e.g., related to sustainable energy or information technology. Method and software development are an important component of our research. Major responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for developing neural network potentials for materials used in solar cells and tunnel field-effect transistors, including their interfaces in neutral and excited states. In this context, you are expected to plan, conduct and analyze simulations, to interpret the results and to drive the progress of the project. We also encourage you to supervise Master and doctoral students and support you in this process.

Qualifications To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree in physics, chemistry or materials science, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). You must also have a documented experience in computational modeling and electronic structure calculations. You should enjoy working in a collaborative environment including interactions with both theoreticians and experimentalists.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
