Laboratory of Interdisciplinary researches on Continental Environments (LIEC)

CNRS & University of Lorraine, France

The LIEC and the Microbial Ecology EMMA team offers a stimulating research environment and is looking for a motivated postdoctoral fellow. The position is placed in EMMA team that focus on the impact of pollutants (organics and metals) on microorganisms at cellular, populational and community scales. Central themes are genomic, physiological and molecular adaptation of bacteria and fungi to pollutants, ecotoxicological responses and resilience mechanisms of polluted environments using omic and meta-omic tools, stable isotope probing, microscopy and all microbiology and molecular biology approaches.

The position is part of funded EU project entitled MIBIREM-Toolbox for Microbiome based Remediation (https: // cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101059260). The MIBIREM project starting from the 1st October 2022, brings together 11 European partners from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, representing academia and industry, and aims to generate a toolbox to develop applications for bioremediation microbiomes.

    Duties:

The postdoc will do research on bacterial community diversity of cyanides, hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) and petroleum hydrocarbons (PHC) contaminated soils and groundwater. The person will explore and characterize the pollutant- degrading bacterial population through the development of in situ soil bacterial traps, the use of DNA-Stable Isotope Probing (DNA-SIP) and metagenomics, and will be involved in isolation (2-months stay at Ghent University), genomic characterization of bacterial strains potentially interesting for bioremediation and development of specific qPCR assays.

    Qualifications:

  • PhD in microbial ecology or microbiology
  • Solid laboratory skills in molecular biology and interest in field trips
  • Strong experience with advanced statistics, multivariate statistics, large data management and bioinformatics
  • Excellence in English and good communication skills
  • skills in writing scientific publications: first-authored papers in high- ranking IF journals in the fields of microbiology, ecology, environmental sciences
  • We are looking for a highly motivated, flexible, open-minded and team-oriented candidate who has shown good abilities for independent scientific work and will contribute positively to the development of the project. The post-doc will work in close collaboration with Dr. Aurélie Cébron (https: // scholar.google.com/citations?user=OqgGbUcAAAAJ&hl=fr) and will be in regular contact with most European partners and should interact with them independently.

    Place of work:
