    The Integrative Nuclear Architecture Research Line is coordinated by Dr. Irene Farabella, who has extensive experience in integrative modelling, imagining data analysis and 3D genomics.

    The Research Line focuses on integrating imaging techniques, genomic data, structural bioinformatics, and physical theories to investigate the 3D genome organization plasticity and how multiple components of the nucleus influence gene regulation information across scales.

    Within the team, the postdoctoral position focuses on:

  • Development of new methods for the analysis and modelling of genome imaging data (as sequential OligoSTORM- Nir,Farabella PlosGen 2018-). Methods range from statistical to computational tools, including machine- learning, to better understand the contribution of 3D genome structural variation patterns to genome function and regulation.
  • Interact with external and internal collaborators to evaluate and validate the implemented methods, models and predictions using experiments.
  • We expect all code produced in this project to be developed in Python, released as fully open source and made publicly available to the research community.
  • The position will be fully funded by the Giovanni Armenise Harvard Foundation within the project: “Investigating genome structural variability at the nanoscale”.


  • A PhD in Mathematics, Biology, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computational Biology, Theoretical Physics, Genetics, Biotechnology or other relevant fields (or you are close of finishing your PhD).
  • Experience in data analysis, modeling, and/or statistics
  • Fluent programming skill in Python
  • The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
  • Good command in spoken and written English
  • Strong communication skills, both presentations and verbal
  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment
  • Able to work independently, to manage your time and work to deadlines

  • Experience in technologies related to the study of genome structures
  • Experience with state-of-the-art algorithms for image processing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of molecular dynamic simulations and optimization modelling
  • Experience using deep learning libraries such as scikit-learn, pytorch, and tensorflow.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., GitHub) and/or container systems (e.g. Docker, Singularity)
  • Good communication skills
