The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics , Physics , Engineering , Computer Science , Life Sciences and Medicine. Your Role...

Research area:

The research area is signal transduction in cancer. In particular, we are currently focusing on the following research questions:

  • Molecular mechanisms of cytokine signal transduction in melanoma and liver cancer
  • 3D model systems for drug screening and molecular characterization of drug resistance mechanisms in cancer cells
  • The non-coding (cancer) genome; particularly the role of microRNAs and lncRNAs in cancer development and growth regulation; microRNAs as biomarkers
  • Initially, the candidate is expected to actively participate in ongoing projects but also to develop new and own projects in related research fields and subsequently to apply for 3rd party funding. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and dedicated researcher who is keen to pursue a scientific career.


  • The successful candidate will perform research related to the topics of the Signal Transduction Laboratory and collaboration partners
  • Participation in teaching activities at Bachelor and Master level
  • (Co-) Supervision of master and PhD theses is highly encouraged
  • Submission of own grant proposals is expected
  • What we expect from you…
  • A PhD in Biology or Biochemistry (or equivalent)
  • Solid background in Biochemistry and Molecular/Cell Biology documented by peer-reviewed publications
  • Skills in a broad range of molecular biological methods
  • Proficiency in in vivo (mouse) work, FACS analyses and/or microscopy would be an asset
  • Basic skills in in silico analysis of large data sets are necessary, advanced skills and experiences in Bioinformatics / Computational Biology would be an asset (R, python, etc.)
  • Good team player, willing to take over responsibilities
  • Proficient knowledge in English is mandatory
