  • Tender open for the award of 1 Scholarship for postdoc (Bolsa de Pós-Doutoramento). This grant is funded by Portuguese national funds through Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, under Project AFROLAB – Building African Literatures ref. # PTDC/LLT-OUT/6210/2020.

  • The scholarship will be awarded for 12 months, and may be renewed up to the end of the project.

  • The scholarship will be supervised by Dr. Rosa Maria Canarim Fina.

  • The successful candidate will be attached to AFROLAB's Task ThWP6 – African Literatures in Portuguese and Afrodescendants today. The successful applicant will also be included in all the scientific activities of CLEPUL's Group 2 (African Literatures and Cultures). The successful candidate will be asked to participate in the task's activities, including tasks of data gathering and data processing. The recipient of this grant will also participate in the scientific dissemination plan of the project, contributing with their expertise to the preparation of scientific publications, the organisation of conferences, round-tables and other events and the general planning of the project's research activity.

  • This task will be led by Rosa Fina and will pursue the following objectives: a) to set a truthful depiction of the ALP and Afrodescendant literary works published in Portugal, considering nationality, gender, age, number of published books, publisher; through distant reading b) to confront the ALP with with the Afrodescendant works and thus identify the disparities and similarities, as for cultural and literary references, gender issues, etc.; c) to establish contact within societal/civil associations (ex.: DJASS) and promote events to discuss the Afropean literature; d) to set a post-COVID19 scenario on the image of ALP and Afrodescendant literature in Portugal.

    The expected outcome of this task will be presenting the frame of ALP and Afrodescendant literature in Portugal today; promote civil and academic events to discuss the Afropean literature.

    Benefits

    Stipend in accordance to the Portuguese Science Foundation salary scale, 1.646,00 € per month (net) (https: // www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2019.pdf), paid by bank transfer.

    Insurance costs (Seguro Social Voluntário and Seguro de Acidentes Pessoais) are supported by the employer.

    Acceptance of the fellowship is exclusive of any other professional or research activity (Art. 5 of the Research Fellowship Holder Statute).

    Eligibility criteria

    The following applicants are eligible:

    a) Portuguese citizens or citizens of other Member States of the European Union;

    b) Citizens of other countries ;

    c) Stateless persons;

    d) Political refugees.

    Selection process

    The Selection criteria are the following:

    1. Curriculum Assessment (CA) expressed on a scale from 0 to 20 values:

    1.1.) Academic Qualification or level of qualification certified by the competent authorities (weight: 40%)

    1.2.) Complementary Training (weight: 20%)

    1.3.) Professional experience regarding activities relevant for this project (weight: 30%)

    1.4.) Preferential requirements (weight: 10%)

    2. Interview (I)

    2.1.) Motivation (weight: 80%)

    2.2.) Fluency (weight: 20%)

    Final classification = CA (70%) + I (30%)

    a) Academic Qualifications (AQ) will graduate from 10 to 20, according to the academic degrees that the candidates prove to hold, in the following terms:

    Degree in the area = 15

    Master's Degree in the area = 20

    b) In Complementary Training (CT) the participation, duly proven, in extracurricular activities of a formative and scientific nature, directly related to the scientific domains of the project or activities for which the scholarship is intended, will be considered according to the following classification:

    None or irrelevant additional training: 0.

    Complementary training of little relevance: 8.

    Relevant additional training: 14.

    Very relevant complementary training: 20.

    c) In Professional Experience (PE) the effective performance of Functions, duly proven, will be considered, directly related to the work plan, being evaluated according to the following formula:

    Experience up to 9 years: 10

    Experience > 10 years < 15 years: 15

    Experience > 15 years: 20

    d) The Preferential Requirements will be evaluated in accordance with the following elements:

    Taste for teamwork and good interpersonal relationship;

    Aptitude and ability to develop scientific activities in transversal areas of knowledge

    Good computer knowledge from the user's perspective

    Mastery of at least two official languages of the European Union (other than Portuguese)

    Candidates with the highest score after the curriculum evaluation, up to a maximum of four, will be called for an interview.

    The interview evaluation is expressed on a scale from 0 to 20. The following elements will be evaluated and weighted:

    a) Motivation (80%)

    b) Fluency (20%)

    In case of a tie in the total score, the candidate whose profile the jury considers that best suits the place in the competition will be preferred.

    Offer Requirements Skills/Qualifications

    The successful applicant must have completed their PhD program in Portuguese Studies/African Literatures.

    Upon completion of the grant period, the scholarship holder has up to 60 weekdays to submit to drh@letras.ulisboa.pt (a) a final report on the activities and results (in electronic format); and (b) the supervisor(s)'s evaluation of the final report.

    The final report will be evaluated by the supervisor(s) according to the following criteria:

    - Quality of the work developed - 60%

    - Results achieved (publications; conference presentations) - 30%

    - Integration and adaptation skills - 10%

    Each criterion will be graded 0-20. The final evaluation will be 0-20.

    Specific Requirements

    Specific requirements for this grant include high-quality published scientific works in international journals.

    Candidates are not eligible:

    - Whose doctoral degree has been obtained more than three years prior to the date of submission of the scholarship application;

    - Whose research works that led to the attribution of the doctoral degree have been developed at CLEPUL – Centre for Lusophone and European Literatures and Cultures;

    - That exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, a cumulative period of three years in this type of scholarship, consecutive or interpolated.
