PostDoc (f/m/d) - Ion Beam Analysis

As a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The Center's focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

The Ion Beam Center at the HZDR is a leading European user facility for basic and application-oriented studies in the field of physics and materials science with ions. The IBC stands for many years of scientific and technical expertise and operates various machines and dedicated end-stations providing ion beams of almost all stable elements in a wide energy range from eV to 60 MeV.

As part of the Institute for Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research, the Ion Beam Center (IBC) invites applications as a PostDoc (f/m/d) - Ion Beam Analysis.

The position will be available from 1 April 2022. The employment contract is limited to 15 months.

Tasks:

Further development of software for ion beam analysis (IBA) in the frame of the EU-projekt RADIATE

Collaboration with colleagues (f/m/d) at the partner ion beam centers in RADIATE

Development of software for ion beam analysis, especially for multi- detector systems and imaging

Scientific collaboration with leading international groups in the field of IBA

User (f/m/d) acquisition and support for their experiments at the IBC

Requirements:

PhD degree (or equivalent) in Physics or Material Science

Experience in one or several of the following areas: Ion beam physics, Ion beam analysis, Materials science

Practical experience with: Radiation detectors, Data acquisition, Data evaluation

Good scripting and programming skills (especially Python)

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Readiness to work in an international team and closely collaborate with experimentalists (f/m/d) and theorists (f/m/d)
